DoT Announces Revathi Mannepalli’s Candidature for Director, ITU Radiocommunication Bureau

Revathi Mannepalli ITU Director candidature has been formally announced by the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, for the post of Director of the Radiocommunication Bureau at the International Telecommunication Union for the 2027–2030 term.

Mannepalli currently serves as a Member of the ITU Radio Regulations Board, one of only 12 elected members worldwide. With nearly 29 years of experience in spectrum management and regulatory affairs, she is widely recognised for her work in international radiocommunication policy and satellite coordination.

Her contributions include playing a pivotal role in restoring satellite orbital resources for 41 African countries, resolving complex international coordination disputes, and fostering regional cooperation in telecommunications. She has also been actively involved in shaping global discussions on non-geostationary satellite systems, spectrum equity, and regulatory frameworks at major ITU forums.

In addition to her role at the ITU, Mannepalli serves as Joint Wireless Adviser in the Wireless Planning and Coordination Wing under the Ministry of Communications. In this capacity, she has overseen national spectrum management initiatives, coordinated India’s participation in ITU-R activities, and contributed to the development of the National Frequency Allocation Table.

If elected, Revathi Mannepalli ITU Director would become the first woman and the first representative from the Asia–Australasia region to lead the Radiocommunication Bureau.
