Government launches ‘Casebook on AI and Gender Empowerment’ at India AI Impact Summit 2026

According to a PIB release, the Government of India has launched the Casebook on AI and Gender Empowerment at the India AI Impact Summit 2026 as a knowledge resource for embedding gender‑responsive principles into national and global artificial‑intelligence governance. The casebook compiles 23 real‑world AI solutions from across the Global South that have delivered measurable gains in gender equality and women’s empowerment, with the publication developed by the Government through the IndiaAI Mission under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), in partnership with UN Women and with support from the Ministry of Women and Child Development (MoWCD).
The featured models span sectors such as education, healthcare, employment, financial inclusion, and social‑protection, and have moved beyond the prototype stage into operational use. They were shortlisted from a pool of 233 submissions across more than 50 countries, evaluated on criteria including real‑world deployment, measurable gender impact, and evidence‑based outcomes. According to the PIB release, the casebook is intended as a reference for policymakers, technology developers, researchers, and practitioners, offering scalable templates that can be adapted in India and other developing economies.
The compendium was jointly launched on 17 February 2026 at the summit by Shri S. Krishnan, Secretary, MeitY; Shri Anil Malik, Secretary, MoWCD; and Ms. Christine Arab, Regional Director, UN Women Asia and the Pacific. A copy was later presented to United Nations Secretary‑General António Guterres during his visit to the summit expo, signalling its role in broader global AI‑governance discussions. The document aligns with India’s stated vision of “democratic AI diffusion” and the Government’s focus, under the IndiaAI Mission’s Seven Chakras, on ethical, inclusive, and development‑oriented AI deployment.
The Casebook on AI and Gender Empowerment is available for download on the official India AI Impact Summit portal at `impact.indiaai.gov.in`, alongside other sectoral AI‑impact casebooks in health, agriculture, energy, education, and accessibility. According to the PIB release, the publication will feed into future policy briefs, regulatory discussions, and capacity‑building initiatives aimed at scaling gender‑smart AI solutions.
