PM-eBus Sewa Scheme Accelerates Electric Mobility Across 116 Cities with 10,000 e-Buses Sanctioned

The Ministry of Heavy Industries reports significant progress under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme, sanctioning 10,000 electric buses across 116 cities in 20 states and 6 union territories. The scheme enables 30% of participating cities to deploy organised public transport systems and 80% to transition to e-mobility for the first time, supported by 100% financial assistance for behind-the-meter (BTM) power infrastructure. Over 200 infrastructure proposals receive approval, including civil depots and power infrastructure, with more than 500 circuit kms of high tension (HT) line infrastructure and depot construction on over 300 acres of land sanctioned. Total sanctioned amount for infrastructure reaches Rs 1254.38 crore, with Rs 483.70 crore spent by December 2025. Maharashtra leads with Rs 370.49 crore sanctioned, followed by Andhra Pradesh (Rs 95.59 crore) and Rajasthan (Rs 102.11 crore).
Scheme implementation generates employment potential of 45,000 to 55,000 direct jobs during its tenure. In Jabalpur, Rs 10.48 crore was sanctioned for BTM power and civil depot infrastructure to support 200 e-buses, with a concession agreement signed on February 12, 2026. The data management system of MoHUA does not track exact job numbers, as cities handle bus operations and depot construction independently.
This information is provided by Minister of State for Heavy Industries, Shri Bhupathiraju Srinivasa Varma, in a written reply in Lok Sabha. The scheme’s comprehensive approach, combining bus deployment, infrastructure funding, and operational support, positions India for accelerated public transport electrification and sustainable urban mobility.
