Subhasis Sengupta Appointed Director (Operations) at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Ltd to Drive Steel Plant Efficiency

SAIL veteran Subhasis Sengupta was appointed Director (Operations) at Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL), Visakhapatnam Steel Plant, following PESB recommendation from 12 candidates interviewed on March 10, 2026. Currently Chief General Manager (Projects) at Durgapur Steel Plant, Sengupta brings 33+ years of steel industry expertise in operations, maintenance, blast furnace management, and growth projects.
PESB Meeting No. 19/2026 selected Sengupta for the critical role overseeing integrated steel plant performance, production optimisation, process efficiency, and strategic initiatives at India’s Navratna PSU under the Ministry of Steel. His prior roles include CGM (Works) at SAIL Growth Works Kulti with an additional charge for ED (Growth Division), GM (Blast Furnace Maintenance) DSP, and leadership in central engineering/machine shop operations.
Appointment subject to competent authority approval, Sengupta tasked with enhancing Visakhapatnam Steel Plant competitiveness amid RINL’s capacity expansion to 7.5 MTPA and diversification into specialty steels. RINL’s recent leadership bolstering includes Dr. Rakesh Nandan Sahay as Director (Personnel) and C Neelakanta Reddy as CVO.
Sengupta’s operational pedigree positions RINL to accelerate Atmanirbhar Bharat steel self-reliance, targeting EBITDA positivity through cost optimisation and market diversification.
