LaQshya Scheme Certifies 1,244 Labour Rooms and 917 Maternity Operation Theatres Nationwide

As of February 2026, India’s LaQshya scheme has certified 1,244 Labour Rooms (LRs) and 917 Maternity Operation Theatres (MOTs) in public health facilities, improving quality of care for pregnant women and newborns. Union Minister Anupriya Patel shared the state-wise progress in the Lok Sabha.
LaQshya (Labour Room Quality Improvement Initiative) aims to reduce maternal/neonatal mortality through better infrastructure, respectful maternity care, and provider training across public facilities. West Bengal leads with 45 LRs and 44 MOTs certified, followed by other states demonstrating significant scale-up.
The scheme supports labour room upgrades, competency-based training for 1.5 lakh+ staff nurses, and referral transport strengthening. Certified facilities feature privacy-respecting designs, infection control protocols, and newborn stabilisation units.
Over 2,200 facilities certified since 2017 reflect NHM’s focus on respectful maternity care, reducing third-stage complications and improving birth outcomes. Anupriya Patel highlighted LaQshya’s role in achieving SDG maternal health targets.
