Vamsi Rama Mohan Burra has officially assumed the role of Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (POWERGRID), India’s largest electric power transmission company and a Maharatna PSU. Before this appointment, he was serving as Director (Projects) in the organisation, where he played a key role in planning and executing large‑scale transmission and infrastructure projects.
With over 33 years of experience in the power transmission and telecom sectors, Burra brings deep domain expertise in project management, system planning, engineering, and operations. His career has spanned leadership roles in key positions across power utilities and related infrastructure projects, giving him a strong understanding of India’s evolving transmission grid and energy‑transition requirements.
In his new role as CMD, Burra will be responsible for guiding POWERGRID’s strategic direction, including the expansion of the national grid, integration of renewable energy, and modernisation of transmission systems. The appointment comes at a time when India is scaling up its renewable capacity and laying the groundwork for a smarter, more resilient grid.
As chairman, Burra is expected to oversee the company’s investment in grid infrastructure, strengthen its focus on digitalisation and efficiency, and support national energy‑security goals. His leadership will be particularly important in enhancing grid stability, advancing cross‑border power projects, and ensuring reliable power delivery across the country.
