The Uttar Pradesh government has appointed IAS Gauri Shankar Priyadarshi as Director General, AYUSH and Mission Director, National AYUSH Mission, Uttar Pradesh, as part of a major administrative reshuffle involving 17 IAS officers.
Priyadarshi, a senior IAS officer, was previously serving as Commissioner, Rural Development and Secretary, Rural Development Department. His move to the AYUSH portfolio places him in charge of an important area of the state’s healthcare and traditional medicine framework.
As Director General, AYUSH, Priyadarshi will oversee the administration and implementation of programmes covering Ayurveda, Yoga, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy across the state. As Mission Director of the National AYUSH Mission, he will also be responsible for coordinating key initiatives aimed at strengthening AYUSH services and expanding access to traditional systems of healthcare.
His appointment comes as part of a wider reallocation of senior administrative responsibilities across Uttar Pradesh. Following his transfer, Pramod Kumar Upadhyay has been appointed Commissioner, Rural Development, taking over the portfolio previously held by Priyadarshi.
Priyadarshi brings his experience in rural development and public administration to the new assignment. His tenure in the AYUSH department will involve overseeing policy implementation, programme coordination and administrative functions associated with the state’s AYUSH sector.
The latest posting adds another significant responsibility to Priyadarshi’s administrative career and comes amid the Uttar Pradesh government’s continued efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and expand the reach of traditional systems of medicine across the state.
