Amit Agrawal IAS Appointed Secretary, Department of Telecommunications

Amit Agrawal IAS Secretary DoT has assumed charge as Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications, Government of India, bringing extensive experience across technology policy, public finance, and digital governance to the role.

In his new role, Amit Agrawal IAS Secretary DoT is expected to play a key role in advancing telecom reforms, digital connectivity, and technology-led inclusion.

A 1993-batch IAS officer of the Chhattisgarh cadre, Amit Agrawal brings extensive experience across technology policy, public finance, and digital governance. Most recently, he served as Secretary, Department of Pharmaceuticals, where he was closely involved in policy formulation and sectoral reforms.

His earlier assignments include Chief Executive Officer of the Unique Identification Authority of India, Additional Secretary at the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology, and senior roles as Additional Secretary and Joint Secretary in the Ministry of Finance.

Known for his strong understanding of digital infrastructure, large-scale governance systems, and public finance, Amit Agrawal’s appointment comes at a crucial juncture as India accelerates efforts in 5G expansion, telecom reforms, digital connectivity, and technology-led inclusion.

An alumnus of the 1991 batch in Electrical Engineering, his elevation reflects a career marked by institutional building, strategic leadership, and policy execution. His stewardship at the Department of Telecommunications is expected to further strengthen India’s telecom ecosystem and support the country’s broader digital ambitions.
