Shri Asheesh Kumar, an accomplished mining professional with over three decades of experience, has taken over as Director (Business Development), Coal India Limited (CIL).
Shri Kumar began his journey with Coal India in 1994 as a Graduate Engineering Trainee (Mining) at Central Coalfields Limited. An alumnus of ISM Dhanbad (B.Tech in Mining Engineering) and BITS Mesra (MBA), he brings deep expertise in operations, contract management, vigilance, policy formulation, project monitoring, and strategic planning.
Prior to his current assignment, Shri Kumar served as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Ministry of Coal, Government of India, where he played a key role in advancing sectoral reforms. His notable achievements include spearheading coal gasification projects, driving Coal India’s diversification into critical minerals, and forging international partnerships to prepare the company for future energy transitions.
With his extensive experience and strategic vision, Shri Kumar is expected to give a strong push to Coal India’s growth, diversification, and sustainability agenda.
