Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) has secured a major defence order worth ₹1,950 crore for the supply of approximately 100 all-weather, multi-function, long-range surveillance radars to the Indian armed forces. The contract, announced by the company, underscores BEL’s growing role in indigenising critical defence electronics and strengthening India’s self‑reliance in radar and surveillance systems.
The radars are designed to be all‑weather, multi‑mission platforms capable of long‑range surveillance, tracking of aerial and surface targets, and integration with command and control systems. They are intended to support airspace monitoring, border surveillance, and coastal defence requirements, aligning with the government’s push for modernisation and technology upgradation in defence.
As a key public sector defence electronics manufacturer, BEL has been at the forefront of developing and producing indigenous radar, electronic warfare, communication, and naval systems for the Indian Army, Navy, Air Force, and paramilitary forces. The ₹1,950‑crore radar deal is expected to boost production capacity, deepen R&D linkages with military labs, and reinforce BEL’s position as a preferred supplier for future radar‑based projects.
The order also aligns with the broader “Make in India” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat” defence strategy, where the focus is on reducing dependence on imports for critical sensors and enabling technology transfer, skill development, and domestic industrial participation.
