The Union Government has appointed senior IPS officer Rakesh Aggarwal as the Director General of the National Investigation Agency (NIA), with his tenure set to continue until August 31, 2028. A 1994-batch IPS officer, Aggarwal brings extensive experience in counter-terrorism, intelligence coordination, and internal security operations.
His appointment comes at a critical juncture as India continues to strengthen its national security framework and enhance the operational capabilities of its premier counter-terrorism agency. With a strong track record in handling complex security challenges, Aggarwal is expected to play a key role in reinforcing the NIA’s mandate to investigate and combat terrorism and related threats.
