In a groundbreaking leap for India’s private space industry, Chennai-based Space Kidz India is set to launch the country’s first-ever electric rocket, “Vayuputhra.” The innovation marks a historic moment in sustainable space exploration, showcasing India’s growing capability in green aerospace technology.
Powered by electric propulsion with zero emissions, Vayuputhra has been crafted using 3D-printed carbon fibre and biodegradable plastic, highlighting the nation’s commitment to eco-friendly innovation. The rocket is designed to soar up to 6 kilometres in altitude—a significant milestone for experimental electric propulsion systems.
What makes this achievement even more remarkable is its ultra-low cost, with each launch requiring batteries that cost just ₹25, and no traditional launchpad needed for deployment.
Developed entirely by the Space Kidz India team, Vayuputhra aims to inspire young minds and nurture the next generation of scientists and engineers passionate about space and sustainability.
This pioneering project represents a major stride toward green, affordable, and accessible space missions, positioning India as a trailblazer in the future of clean aerospace technology.
