The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has partnered with Reliance Jio to introduce a mobile-based safety alert system aimed at enhancing road safety across National Highways.
Under this initiative, drivers will receive real-time alerts on their mobile devices, warning them about potential hazards such as accident-prone stretches, fog-affected zones, stray animal movement, and emergency traffic diversions. The system is designed to provide timely information, enabling motorists to take preventive action and reduce the risk of accidents.
By leveraging Jio’s digital connectivity and NHAI’s highway infrastructure data, the platform will deliver location-specific safety notifications to commuters traveling on major highway corridors. The initiative forms part of NHAI’s broader efforts to adopt technology-driven solutions for safer and more efficient road transport.
Officials noted that the collaboration reflects a shared commitment to improving commuter safety through proactive communication and real-time information dissemination. Reliance Jio emphasized that its network capabilities would support reliable and scalable delivery of alerts to a large number of users across the highway network.
The launch of the mobile-based safety alert system marks a significant step toward smarter highways and underscores the role of digital innovation in strengthening road safety across India.
