OpenAI has announced the appointment of Raghav Gupta as its new Head of Education for India and Asia Pacific, signaling a major expansion of the company’s focus on the education sector in the region.
Gupta, who has consistently worked at the intersection of technology and social impact, particularly in education, shared the news in a LinkedIn post, calling it a significant milestone in his career.
At the inaugural India Education Summit, Gupta unveiled the OpenAI Learning Accelerator, a new initiative aimed at strengthening AI’s role in education. The program, developed in collaboration with IIT Madras, AICTE, and ARISE, will:
Fund cutting-edge research on AI and learning.
Distribute nearly 500,000 ChatGPT licenses to educational institutions.
Deliver practical training programs for educators and students nationwide.
Highlighting the rapid adoption of ChatGPT in India, where millions of students already use the tool daily for academic support and exploration, Gupta stressed the importance of partnering with educators and institutions. “To make real progress, it’s crucial that AI strengthens learning, supports teachers, and addresses the unique needs of India’s education system,” he said.
The move positions India as a central hub in OpenAI’s global education strategy and underscores the growing role of AI in shaping the future of learning.
