Debashree Mukherjee, IAS, Given Additional Charge as Secretary, Ministry of MSME

Debashree Mukherjee, IAS (AGMUT: 1991), presently serving as Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship, has been entrusted with the additional charge of Secretary, Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises (MSME) from November 8 to November 16, 2025, during the period of leave of Shri Subhas Chandra Lal Das, IAS (AGMUT: 1992).

A distinguished officer of the Indian Administrative Service, Ms. Mukherjee is widely recognized for her clarity of vision, policy acumen, and leadership across key sectors of governance. She holds a Post-Graduate degree in English Literature and an M.Sc. in Water and Environmental Management from Loughborough University, UK, reflecting her well-rounded academic foundation combining social insight with environmental awareness.

In her current role as Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Ms. Mukherjee has been steering national efforts to build a future-ready workforce, strengthen industry-linked skilling ecosystems, and promote entrepreneurship and innovation across India.

Previously, she served as Secretary, Ministry of Jal Shakti (Department of Water Resources, River Development & Ganga Rejuvenation), where she led several landmark initiatives in sustainable water management, river basin planning, and hydrological resilience. Her work in this sector underscored her commitment to collaborative governance and long-term environmental sustainability.

Ms. Mukherjee’s additional charge at the Ministry of MSME further strengthens the leadership continuity in the government’s efforts to empower India’s micro, small, and medium enterprises—an essential pillar of the nation’s economic growth and employment generation.
