Anu Garg Appointed Chief Secretary of Odisha, First Woman to Hold the Post

Anu Garg Chief Secretary Odisha appointment has been officially confirmed, with senior IAS officer Anu Garg taking charge as the Chief Secretary of Odisha. She succeeds Manoj Ahuja, who is set to retire on December 31, 2025. With this appointment, Anu Garg becomes the first woman to serve as Chief Secretary in the state’s history.

A 1991-batch Indian Administrative Service officer, Anu Garg is currently serving as Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary of the Planning and Convergence Department as well as the Water Resources Department. Her appointment has been formally notified by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department of the Odisha government.

Over the course of her career, Anu Garg has built extensive experience across both state and central administration. She has held several senior leadership positions, including Principal Secretary of the Water Resources Department, Women and Child Development Department, and Labour and ESI Department, among others. Her administrative career reflects strong exposure to policy formulation, governance, and large-scale programme implementation.

With deep institutional knowledge and long-standing experience in public administration, Anu Garg is expected to provide leadership continuity and administrative stability at the highest level of the state government. Her appointment comes at a time when Odisha continues to focus on development planning, infrastructure growth, and effective governance delivery.
