Power Foundation of India Appoints Former Powergrid CMD as Director General

Dr. R K Tyagi has assumed charge as Director General of the Power Foundation of India, an autonomous society functioning under the aegis of the Ministry of Power, Government of India.

The appointment of Dr R K Tyagi Power Foundation of India marks a significant leadership transition in India’s power sector, bringing decades of expertise in transmission systems, grid operations, and power infrastructure management.

Over 35 Years of Experience in the Power Sector

Before taking over the new role, Dr. Tyagi superannuated as Chairman and Managing Director of Power Grid Corporation of India Limited. He also previously served as Director (Operations) and Executive Director for the North-Eastern Region.

With more than 35 years of experience, he has contributed extensively across power systems, transmission, asset management, telecom, engineering, business development, load dispatch, safety, and grid operations.

Academic and Global Technical Contributions

Dr. Tyagi is an Electrical Engineer from Punjab Engineering College and holds an M.Tech in Energy Studies from Indian Institute of Technology Delhi. He is also a Fulbright Scholar from Carnegie Mellon University.

Recognized as a respected thought leader in the global power ecosystem, Dr. Tyagi has represented India in several international technical committees and has authored more than 50 technical papers.

He has also played a major role in the development of global technical standards in transmission systems and received the prestigious 1906 Award for exceptional contribution towards IEC standards development. Additionally, he has been recognized by CIGRE as a Distinguished Member.
