NALCO and NLC India Forge Energy Partnership with New MoU

National Aluminium Company Limited (NALCO), a Navratna PSU, signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with NLC India Ltd today, February 16, 2026, at Mahabalipuram, Tamil Nadu. The agreement paves the way for collaboration on thermal power supply and renewable energy projects, securing NALCO’s long-term energy needs. The MoU focuses on NALCO’s 1080 MW captive thermal power plant in Angul, Odisha, and joint development of renewable sources. It establishes frameworks for power purchase agreements, coal linkages from captive mines, and future green energy initiatives. This tie-up addresses the aluminium sector’s power-intensive demands amid India’s industrial expansion. NALCO Director (Finance) Jagdish Arora and NLC India Director (Operations) Prasanna Kumar Motupalli signed the document. Senior officials from both firms witnessed the event, highlighting PSU synergy for national goals. NALCO, a top alumina-aluminium producer, relies on stable power for smelting. NLC India, a leading miner and power generator, brings expertise in lignite/coal thermal plants and renewables like solar. Together, they aim to optimise costs, ensure reliability, and transition to cleaner energy. This move aligns with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat and net-zero targets. It boosts energy security for metals, reduces import dependence, and explores hybrid thermal-renewable models. As aluminium demand surges for EVs and infrastructure, such PSUs’ partnerships drive sustainable growth.
