Ajay Kumar Gupta IAS Takes Charge as Delhi’s Food Safety Commissioner

Senior IAS officer Ajay Kumar Gupta has been appointed as Commissioner, Food Safety, Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD), with the order issued on August 7, 2026. He has also been given the additional charge of Secretary, Home.

A 2009-batch AGMUT cadre officer, Gupta was awaiting posting before being assigned the new responsibilities. His appointment is part of a wider administrative reshuffle involving several IAS and DANICS officers across key departments of the Delhi Government.

Gupta takes over the Food Safety portfolio from Jitender Kumar Jain, IAS, who has been relieved of the additional charge of Commissioner, Food Safety. The new assignment places Gupta at the forefront of Delhi’s food safety administration and regulatory framework.

Alongside his Food Safety responsibilities, Gupta’s additional charge as Secretary, Home adds another significant portfolio to his new assignment, further expanding his role within the Delhi administration.

The appointment marks an important new responsibility for Gupta as the Delhi Government continues to strengthen administrative oversight across key governance and public-service functions.
