Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi IAS Moves to MCD as Deputy Commissioner

The Delhi Government has appointed Azharuddin Zahiruddin Quazi, IAS, as Deputy Commissioner in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) as part of a recent administrative reshuffle involving senior IAS and DANICS officers.

A 2020-batch AGMUT cadre officer, Quazi was serving as Member, Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB), while also holding the additional charge of Chief Vigilance Officer (CVO) for Delhi Transco Limited (DTL), Indraprastha Power Generation Company Limited (IPGCL) and Pragati Power Corporation Limited (PPCL). With his new assignment, Quazi will take on an important role in Delhi’s municipal administration, overseeing responsibilities related to civic governance and service delivery.

His posting brings his administrative experience to the MCD at a time when strengthening urban and civic management remains a key priority. Quazi had earlier served in the Andaman and Nicobar Administration, where he held responsibilities including Secretary of the Port Blair Municipal Corporation. He was relieved from the administration in February 2026 following his transfer to Delhi.

His appointment to MCD is part of a broader restructuring of administrative responsibilities across the Delhi Government, with several officers being assigned new roles in urban development, education, environment, food safety and other key areas.
