The Government of India has entrusted Amit Sharma, IAS with the additional charge of Director Census, Mizoram, alongside existing official duties. This appointment comes at a pivotal time as Census Operations are set to commence across the nation in the near future.
The decennial Census is one of the most significant administrative exercises in the country, serving as the primary source of comprehensive demographic, social, and economic data. This information is critical for evidence-based policy-making, resource allocation, and developmental planning at both the national and state levels.
Speaking about the new role,Amit Sharma, IAS said:
