The Government of Haryana has announced the appointment of Smt. Aparajita, IAS (2018 batch, Haryana cadre), as Mission Director – Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban). She takes charge of the role following her return from maternity leave, marking an important step in the state’s drive to strengthen urban sanitation and sustainable waste management.
In her new capacity, Smt. Aparajita will be responsible for spearheading key initiatives under the Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), with a focus on scaling up scientific waste disposal, improving urban cleanliness indices, promoting citizen participation, and ensuring sustainable models of sanitation across municipalities in Haryana.
Aparajita belongs to the 2018 batch of the Indian Administrative Service and has served in diverse administrative assignments, where she has been recognized for her commitment to governance, innovation, and citizen-centric delivery. Her return to active service comes at a crucial time, as the state looks to further accelerate its efforts in achieving the goals of Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, which emphasizes not only cleanliness but also circular economy practices, plastic waste reduction, and digital monitoring of urban sanitation systems.
With her leadership, the state is expected to strengthen urban local bodies in implementing modern waste management solutions and in driving behavioral change campaigns for cleaner cities. Her appointment also highlights the government’s emphasis on empowering young IAS officers to take on leadership roles in flagship national missions.
