B. Sairam has assumed charge as the Chairman-cum-Managing Director (CMD) of Coal India Limited (CIL), bringing seasoned leadership to the country’s largest coal-producing enterprise. His appointment took effect following an official announcement on December 15, 2025.
A qualified mining engineer from NIT Raipur, Sairam brings over three decades of professional experience spanning mine management, large-scale operations, logistics planning, and regulatory coordination. Over the course of his career, he has held several senior positions, contributing to operational efficiency and policy-aligned execution within the coal and mining sector.
His elevation to the top leadership role comes at a critical time for Coal India, as the organisation continues to balance production growth with sustainability goals, supply chain optimisation, and national energy security priorities.
Under his leadership, Coal India Limited is expected to focus on strengthening operational resilience, improving productivity, and supporting India’s long-term industrial and power-sector requirements
