Suresh Goyal Named Director General of NCAER

Suresh Goyal has been appointed as the new Director General of the National Council of Applied Economic Research (NCAER), India’s leading economic policy think tank. He is scheduled to assume office in January 2026.

A former chief of the National Highways Infrastructure Trust (NHIT), Goyal brings over three decades of experience across infrastructure development, public policy, and institutional leadership. His appointment signals NCAER’s intent to further strengthen its research depth and policy engagement at a time of evolving economic priorities.

In his new role, Goyal will focus on expanding NCAER’s research capabilities, establishing new thematic policy centres, and deepening collaboration with government bodies, industry stakeholders, and international institutions. His leadership is expected to support evidence-based policymaking and enhance the think tank’s contribution to national economic discourse.

NCAER has played a central role in shaping India’s economic policy landscape for decades, and Goyal’s appointment is seen as a strategic move to build on this legacy while addressing emerging development challenges.
