The Government of India has appointed Deepti Gaur Mukerjee, IAS (1993 batch, Madhya Pradesh cadre) as the new Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education.
Mukerjee, who was serving as Secretary, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, will take charge of her new assignment as part of the latest bureaucratic appointments by the Modi government.
An experienced civil servant, Mukerjee has held several important administrative responsibilities during her career. Her appointment to the Higher Education Department comes at a significant time as India continues to focus on strengthening higher education, institutional capacity, skill development and education-sector reforms.
In her new role, Mukerjee will be responsible for overseeing key policy and administrative matters concerning higher education and working with institutions and stakeholders to advance the government’s education priorities.
The appointment marks another significant leadership change within the Ministry of Education and brings an experienced IAS officer to the helm of the country’s higher education administration.
