MeitY Launches Blockchain India Challenge for Digital Governance Innovation

MeitY Secretary Shri S. Krishnan launched the Blockchain India Challenge on February 23, 2026, at MeitY New Delhi, to foster permissioned blockchain solutions for government use cases, according to a Press Information Bureau (PIB) release. Implemented by C-DAC with MeitY support, the initiative invites startups to pitch and pilot transformative digital governance solutions in e-procurement, supply chain, PDS, education, healthcare, agriculture, power, IoT, land records, environment, and sustainability, open to additional impactful areas.
Shri Krishnan highlighted blockchain’s role in government services for verifiability, transparency, and efficiency via a single source of truth, urging C-DAC and MeitY to proliferate the challenge among startups for field-ready, scalable deployments. Selected DPIIT-recognised startups partnering with government departments will receive stage-wise funding for 10 high-impact use cases.
Eligibility and details are at https://challenge.cdac.in, with immediate sign-ups encouraged for updates. The challenge prioritises regulatory-compliant, secure blockchain emphasising trust, auditability, and tamper-proof records.
Attendees included Additional Secretary Shri Abhishek Singh, Joint Secretary Shri Sudeep Srivastava, Group Coordinators Smt. Sunita Verma and Shri Manoj Kumar Jain, C-DAC Hyderabad Head Smt. P R Lakshmi Eswari, and officials from MeitY, C-DAC, government departments, and startups.
