Mizoram Partners with BHASHINI to Strengthen Inclusive Digital Governance

In a major step toward inclusive and citizen-centric digital governance, the Government of Mizoram has entered into a strategic partnership with BHASHINI (Bhasha Internet Sushasan aur Hitkari Nivesh), a national initiative aimed at breaking language barriers in technology.

The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between Mizoram and BHASHINI underscores the state’s commitment to bringing governance closer to the people by promoting digital access in native languages. Through this collaboration, Mizoram seeks to enhance government-citizen interaction by integrating local languages into digital platforms and services.

Officials emphasized that the move aligns with the broader vision of Digital India and supports the use of artificial intelligence and natural language processing to democratize technology. The collaboration is expected to catalyze the development of local language datasets, translation tools, and voice-based digital interfaces across government departments.

With this forward-looking step, Mizoram becomes one of the pioneering states in the Northeast to actively implement language-first digital governance, setting a precedent for others to follow in building a more inclusive and linguistically diverse digital ecosystem.

The MoU also includes a commitment to enhance Mizo Language AI models by jointly developing datasets and training culturally relevant translation tools tailored to India’s diverse linguistic landscape.

To ensure the successful rollout of multilingual solutions, a BHASHINI Rajyam workshop will be organized in Aizawl to bring together state officials, technologists, and stakeholders for program implementation, capacity building, and adoption planning across departments.

The MoU was signed in the esteemed presence of:

Shri Khilli Ram Meena, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Mizoram
Shri Abhishek Singh, IAS, Additional Secretary, MeitY
Shri Amit Sharma, IAS, Secretary, ICT & Cooperation, Government of Mizoram
Shri Amitabh Nag, CEO, Digital India BHASHINI Division
