In a significant step towards improving healthcare access for residents of the National Capital Territory (NCT) of Delhi, the National Health Authority (NHA) and the Government of Delhi have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) in the region. The MoU was officially signed at a ceremony held today in the presence of senior officials from both organizations.
The collaboration aims to extend the benefits of the AB PM-JAY scheme, which provides financial protection to poor and vulnerable families by offering cashless and paperless access to quality healthcare services at empaneled hospitals. Under the scheme, eligible beneficiaries will be able to access treatment for a range of diseases, including life-threatening conditions, without incurring out-of-pocket expenses.
The signing ceremony was attended by key figures from the NHA and the Delhi government, including the Union Health Minister, the Chief Minister of Delhi, and senior officials from both sides. The Chief Minister expressed his commitment to ensuring that the people of Delhi benefit from this health initiative, emphasizing the government’s focus on improving healthcare infrastructure and expanding insurance coverage for the underserved population.
“This partnership marks an important milestone in our mission to ensure that every citizen, irrespective of their financial background, has access to quality healthcare services. The implementation of AB PM-JAY in Delhi will transform the healthcare landscape and provide crucial financial protection to the most vulnerable,” said the Chief Minister.
The NHA officials also highlighted the importance of this partnership in strengthening the reach of the flagship scheme, ensuring that the health needs of Delhi’s diverse population are met effectively.
The signing of the MoU comes as part of the ongoing efforts by the central and state governments to bridge healthcare access gaps and deliver affordable healthcare to every Indian under the PM-JAY program, which is one of the world’s largest health insurance schemes. The initiative is expected to bring about a significant impact in terms of improved health outcomes, reduced financial burdens, and greater health equity across Delhi
