The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS), an autonomous body under the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, has achieved an official Guinness World Record for conducting the “Most viewers of an Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare lesson live stream on YouTube.” The milestone was reached through a nationwide online training programme on artificial intelligence in healthcare, tailored specifically for registered medical practitioners across India.
According to NBEMS, the live session recorded a peak concurrent viewership of 17,999, underscoring the growing interest among doctors in understanding and adopting AI tools in clinical practice. The initiative aims to equip medical professionals with both foundational and applied knowledge of artificial intelligence, positioning them to integrate emerging technologies into patient care in a responsible manner.
The AI training programme, conceptualised under the leadership of NBEMS President and National Medical Commission Chairman Dr Abhijat Sheth, comprises 20 modules scheduled over six months, delivered by leading national and international faculty from institutions such as Harvard (USA), IIM Lucknow, and IISc Bengaluru. Notably, NBEMS is offering this digital academic course free of cost to all participating doctors, reinforcing its mandate to expand access to high‑quality medical education.
The large‑scale digital initiative has been planned and executed by NBEMS Governing Body member Dr. Rakesh Sharma and Dr. A.V.S. Suresh from Hyderabad, in collaboration with AI experts across India and abroad. The Guinness World Record attempt was formally adjudicated by a team led by Swapnil Dangarikar, an appointed judge who conducted a detailed evaluation and verification before confirming the record.
Dr. Sheth said the achievement draws inspiration from the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who has repeatedly stressed the importance of Digital India, technological innovation, and responsible adoption of AI in governance and public services. He also expressed gratitude to Union Health Minister J.P. Nadda, officials of the Health Ministry, academic partners, faculty members, and participating doctors for their contributions to the successful record attempt.
Calling the recognition “more than just a record,” Dr Sheth described it as a testament to India’s leadership in deploying digital innovation in medical education. He emphasised that NBEMS will continue to drive competency‑based learning and roll out new initiatives to improve the quality of healthcare delivery across the country.
“At NBEMS, we believe medical education must grow with global advancements. Our goal is not only to train specialists, but to prepare future‑ready healthcare leaders who can use new technologies responsibly,” Dr Sheth said, adding that the record demonstrates the institution’s readiness to “lead and move forward with the changing world.” The programme saw unprecedented participation from doctors across public and private institutions nationwide, reflecting strong enthusiasm within the medical community for AI‑driven learning and practice.
