Dehradun, April 8, 2025 — In a significant administrative development, Radha Raturi, a seasoned bureaucrat and former Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand, has been appointed as the new Chief Information Commissioner (CIC) of the state. With this, she takes on a key constitutional role responsible for ensuring transparency and accountability under the Right to Information (RTI) Act.
Raturi, a 1988-batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer, brings with her over three decades of rich administrative experience. Known for her decisive leadership and strong governance track record, she had earlier created history by becoming the first woman Chief Secretary of Uttarakhand.
The appointment was officially confirmed earlier this week and comes shortly after her retirement from active service on March 31, 2025. As CIC, Raturi will oversee the functioning of the State Information Commission, adjudicate on appeals and complaints related to RTI applications, and work towards strengthening citizens’ access to information.
Speaking on her new role, Raturi said, “I am honored to take on this responsibility. Transparency is the bedrock of good governance, and I will strive to uphold the principles of openness and accountability in public administration.”
Her appointment has been widely welcomed across bureaucratic and civil society circles, with many expressing confidence that her leadership will further enhance the RTI mechanism in the state.
Raturi’s tenure as Chief Information Commissioner is expected to last three years or until she reaches the age of 65, whichever is earlier.
