Roopa Mishra IAS Gets Six-Month Extension as Joint Secretary in Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs

Odisha cadre IAS officer Roopa Mishra (2004 batch) has received a six-month extension in her central deputation as Joint Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA). The extension sustains her leadership in urban development policies, housing schemes, and infrastructure modernization critical to India’s Smart Cities Mission and PMAY-Urban.
Mishra oversees the implementation of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban), delivering affordable housing to 1.12 crore families, AMRUT 2.0 water supply/sewerage projects across 500 cities, and Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) 2.0, advancing waste management and sanitation. Her portfolio includes policy formulation for urban mobility, land record digitisation, and brownfield redevelopment.
With 22 years of public service, Mishra’s prior roles spanned Odisha’s rural development, revenue administration, and municipal governance before central deputation. She has driven PPP models for urban infrastructure and technology integration in city governance.
The extension aligns with MoHUA’s accelerated execution of ₹1.3 lakh crore urban infra projects under the 2024-25 budget, including 100 new smart cities and transit-oriented development corridors.
