The National Health Authority (NHA) has introduced an innovative QR-code-based solution in Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) empaneled facilities. This initiative empowers patients to efficiently manage their healthcare payments by scanning a QR code displayed at the facility, viewing pending payments linked to their ABHA (Ayushman Bharat Health Account), and making quick digital payments. This solution eliminates the hassle of long queues for payments, offering a seamless and streamlined payment process.

Simplified Payment Process

QR codes are strategically displayed across multiple locations in the waiting and registration areas of healthcare facilities. These locations are carefully selected along the patient’s journey to ensure easy identification and access, particularly at points where payments are required. The same QR code used for “Scan and Share” functionality now incorporates an additional feature: “Scan and Pay.”

Patients can use various ABDM-enabled Personal Health Record (PHR) applications to access the “Scan and Pay” feature. These apps enable individuals to view open orders and make payments for services such as outpatient department (OPD) registrations, diagnostic tests, and pharmacy purchases. More PHR applications are expected to adopt this functionality in the near future, expanding accessibility.

How It Works

  1. Scan the QR Code: Patients scan the QR code displayed at the facility using an ABDM-enabled PHR application.
  2. View Pending Payments: Upon scanning, they can view open orders linked to their ABHA for any pending payments.
  3. Make Digital Payment: Patients can directly pay for services such as OPD registrations, lab tests, and medicines using the PHR application.
  4. Access Services Instantly: With a digital receipt confirming successful payment, patients can immediately access the required services without waiting in payment queues.
