T N Natarajan Assumes Charge as Director (Commercial) at SAIL Strengthening Market Leadership

Shri T N Natarajan has taken charge as Director (Commercial) at Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) effective March 19, 2026, bringing 32+ years of steel industry expertise spanning production, logistics, sales, and strategic marketing. The government-appointed executive assumes this Board-level position through the Ministry of Steel nomination following PESB recommendation, tasked with driving commercial excellence amid India’s steel capacity expansion to 300 MTPA by 2030.
Natarajan joined SAIL as a Management Trainee (Technical) at Bhilai Steel Plant in 1993, progressing through CGM (Sales) and Regional Manager (Western Region). His decade-long Central Marketing Organisation tenure oversaw Bengaluru, Chennai, Trichy operations, while Regional Manager Western Region delivered above-industry growth across Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, targeting fabrication, pre-engineered buildings, oil&gas segments.
Pioneering innovations include SAIL’s first Ready-to-Use TMT Service Centre at Kalamboli, transforming commodity marketing into solution-oriented engagement. Natarajan’s customer-centric strategies enhanced market share, profitability, and brand equity while fostering high-performing teams across regions.
SAIL, India’s largest Maharatna PSU with 18 MTPA capacity across five integrated plants, relies on Natarajan’s commercial acumen, navigating volatile global steel prices, Chinese dumping, and domestic premiumisation. Recent EBITDA positivity and 10% volume growth underscore robust fundamentals under his expanded oversight.
