Abhishek Singh Appointed Director General of the National Testing Agency

Abhishek Singh, a 1995‑batch IAS officer of the Nagaland cadre and an alumnus of IIT Kanpur (BT/ME, 1992), has been appointed as Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), Government of India. In this role, he will lead the agency responsible for conducting several national‑level entrance and competitive examinations under the Ministry of Education, at a time when the organisation is undergoing structural and credibility‑focused scrutiny.
Currently serving as CEO of the IndiaAI Mission and Director General of the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Singh brings nearly three decades of experience in administration, policy formulation, and technology‑led governance to the NTA. He has played a pivotal role in advancing Digital India, contributing to flagship platforms such as DigiLocker, CoWIN, DIKSHA, and large‑scale initiatives under MyGov and the National e‑Governance Division. His earlier career spans key roles in the Government of Nagaland, Uttar Pradesh, and central government entities such as the Food Corporation of India and the Agricultural Scientist Recruitment Board.
Singh’s appointment signals the government’s intent to strengthen the NTA’s technology‑driven examination ecosystem, information‑security framework, and process‑transparency. His background in large‑scale digital public‑infrastructure projects and AI‑driven governance is expected to support the modernisation of the agency’s testing infrastructure, cybersecurity protocols, and end‑to‑end delivery mechanisms for millions of candidates.
