Alagu Varsini V S IAS Appointed Deputy Secretary, Rural Development Ministry

Ms. Alagu Varsini V S, a 2012-batch IAS officer of the Telangana cadre, has been appointed as Deputy Secretary in the Department of Rural Development, Delhi, Government of India, under the Central Staffing Scheme. Her tenure in this central role begins from 5th August 2025 and will span four years, until August 2030.

With a decade-long administrative career, Ms. Varsini brings with her a diverse portfolio covering rural development, public health, social welfare, and the textiles sector. Her early roles in the civil service included Assistant Collector in Nellore and Sub-Collector in Telangana, followed by leadership positions such as CEO, Zila Parishad, Medak, and Director in the Departments of Health, Ayush, and Textiles.

Notably, she also served as Secretary, Department of Social Welfare, Hyderabad, where she was instrumental in driving inclusive programmes for marginalised and Scheduled Caste communities.

Ms. Varsini holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from Meenakshi Ammal Dental College and has pursued management studies at IMT Ghaziabad. She earned her Master in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School, where she was graded ‘A’ in International Relations and also completed a specialised course on Effective Problem Solving and Decision Making.

Her cross-sectoral expertise, grounded in grassroots fieldwork and strategic policy insight, is expected to bring a multidimensional perspective to rural governance at the national level. With her new role at the Ministry, she is set to play a key role in the implementation and strengthening of India’s flagship rural development programmes.
