Breaking the stereotype: From First Woman to Category to the First Person to… category

 we reflect on India’s rich legacy of women leaders, from revered deities to trailblazing pioneers. Their stories inspire us to create a world where gender is no barrier to success. We have made strides, but the journey is far from over.

After more than 75 years of independence, whenever I see a headline ‘first woman to….‘, I wonder how long women will continue to figure in the “first woman to….” category, highlighting the scarcity of women in top ranks. This disparity is more pronounced in informal sectors, where women face exploitation, lack social security, and are denied opportunities.

Empowering women isn’t just about equality; it’s about tapping into a vast reservoir of talent. By fostering an ecosystem that values empathy, emotional intelligence, and inclusivity, we can unlock transformative leadership. It is time to shift from token gestures to tangible change.

Education, economic opportunities, and safety are fundamental rights, not privileges. We must dismantle regressive mindsets and build a society where women’s potential isn’t limited by societal expectations. Even with many reforms and initiatives taken by several governments, our family systems still lean heavily on patriarchal structures, with men often holding the reins of power and decision-making. The imbalance perpetuates inequality, making it imperative to redefine norms. The day we have an equal number of women soldiers, CEOs, and policy makers without quotas and concessions, will be the day we will truly celebrate ‘Viksit Bharat’. 

Until then, let us keep pushing our boundaries, challenging stereotypes, and giving women the freedom to dream big, because their potential is limitless. 

Let’s champion the unstoppable force of willpower, courage, and discipline that knows no gender – because success recognizes only the strength within…”
