Dr. Arunish Chawla officially assumed the role of Secretary, Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, today.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet confirmed Dr. Chawla’s appointment on Wednesday, marking another significant milestone in his illustrious career.
A 1992-batch IAS officer of the Bihar cadre, Dr. Chawla previously served as Secretary in the Department of Pharmaceuticals under the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, a position he held since November 1, 2023.
Dr. Chawla’s extensive experience spans various critical roles, including Managing Director of the Metro Rail Project Patna, Senior Economist at the International Monetary Fund, Minister (Economic) at the Indian Embassy in Washington DC, and Joint Secretary in the Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.
An accomplished academic, Dr. Chawla holds a Master’s and Doctorate in Economics from the London School of Economics, adding a strong scholarly foundation to his practical expertise.
His leadership at the Department of Revenue is expected to bring innovative perspectives and robust financial governance.
