Kolkata, India – Dr. Peeyush Kumar has been appointed as the Director of Coal Gas India Limited (CGIL), a joint venture between Coal India Limited (CIL) and GAIL (India) Limited, established to advance coal gasification initiatives in the country.
Under his leadership, CGIL is set to develop a coal gasification project in West Bengal, marking a significant step towards cleaner energy solutions and reducing dependence on conventional fossil fuels. The initiative aligns with the Indian government’s vision of promoting sustainable energy alternatives while utilizing the country’s abundant coal reserves efficiently.
With extensive experience in the energy sector, Dr. Kumar is expected to drive the project’s execution, ensuring technological innovation and environmental compliance. The coal gasification process converts coal into synthesis gas (syngas), which can be used for various industrial applications, including the production of methanol, ammonia, and hydrogen.
This project is anticipated to boost industrial growth in West Bengal while contributing to India’s long-term energy security and carbon footprint reduction.
