Hari Chandana IAS to Lead Telangana’s Newly Renamed SHAKTI Department

IAS officer Hari Chandana, Secretary of the Government of Telangana’s newly renamed Department of Skill, Human Capital and Knowledge Training Initiatives (SHAKTI), has outlined the department’s vision following its restructuring by the state government.

Formerly known as the Labour, Employment, Training and Factories Department, the department has been rebranded as SHAKTI, reflecting a broader focus on human capital development, skill enhancement, and employment generation.

Sharing her views in a LinkedIn post, Hari Chandana described the change as more than an administrative exercise, stating that it represents a renewed approach to integrating skilling, employment, and workforce development under a unified framework. She emphasized the importance of creating a connected ecosystem that brings together institutions such as the Young India Skills University, Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), Polytechnics, and Advanced Technology Centres to provide seamless pathways from training to employment.

Reaffirming her commitment to effective implementation, she said the department will focus on strengthening last-mile delivery and creating greater opportunities for students, first-generation learners, and women across the state.

The restructuring reflects the Telangana Government’s emphasis on developing human capital and strengthening the state’s skill development ecosystem to improve employability and long-term economic growth.
