Harsharan Kaur Trehan Makes History as PSPCL’s First Woman Director (Commercial)

Harsharan Kaur Trehan has been appointed Director (Commercial) at Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL), becoming the first woman technocrat to reach board level in the organization. The appointment, formalized on February 20, 2026, by Punjab Power Secretary Basant Garg, who also serves as PSPCL Chairman-cum-Managing Director, mwas issued from the corporation’s Patiala headquarters, where she assumed charge for a two-year term ending at age 65.
Trehan’s milestone follows the August 2025 resignation of predecessor Hira Lal Goyal, with Inderpal Singh previously holding additional charge. Her return to PSPCL after retiring as Engineer-in-Chief in October 2022 underscores her enduring impact on Punjab’s power sector.
Joining the erstwhile Punjab State Electricity Board in 1987 as an Assistant Engineer, Trehan amassed over three decades of expertise in transmission/substation design, hydel/thermal operations, and investment promotion. In May 2021, she blazed trails as PSPCL’s first woman Engineer-in-Chief (Material Management), overseeing ₹1,000 crore+ annual procurement with a focus on transparency. As Deputy Chief Engineer (Regulation), she refined the Supply Code, commercial regulations, and electricity manuals, enhancing consumer services and compliance.
This breakthrough elevates gender representation in India’s power utilities, where women leaders at board levels remain scarce. Trehan’s role will prioritize billing efficiency, revenue optimization, and regulatory adherence amid PSPCL’s challenges in commercial operations. Her ascent, from engineer to director, inspires women professionals to target leadership in PSUs.
Headquartered in Patiala, PSPCL manages Punjab’s power generation, transmission, and distribution.
