Secretary (DEPwD) Unveils ‘Standard Bharati Braille Codes’ – A Landmark Guide to Unified Braille Unicodes in India

In a tribute to the enduring legacy of Louis Braille, the National Institute for Empowerment of Persons with Visual Disabilities (NIEPVD), Dehradun, marked World Braille Day with a heartfelt celebration on his 216th birth anniversary. The event spotlighted the transformative power of Braille in empowering visually impaired individuals and promoting inclusivity.

A key highlight was the virtual launch of the book ‘Standard Bharati Braille Codes’ by Shri Rajesh Aggarwal, Secretary, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD). The event also featured NIEPVD Director, Er. Manish Verma, and distinguished guests, including Smt. Manmeet Kaur Nanda, Joint Secretary, DEPwD, and Shri Dipendra Manocha, President, Daisy Forum India.

‘Standard Bharati Braille Codes’ represents a monumental leap in accessibility, offering a standardized guide to Braille unicodes in India. This initiative paves the way for a more inclusive society by streamlining Braille usage across the country.

In his address, Shri Rajesh Aggarwal underscored the pivotal role of Braille in fostering inclusivity and accessibility, while Er. Manish Verma highlighted its crucial role in education and self-reliance for the visually impaired.
