In a decisive move towards a TB-Free India, Union Health Minister Shri JP Nadda spearheaded the Joint Strategy Meeting with 21 Line Ministries at Vigyan Bhawan, marking the launch of the 100-Day Intensified Campaign under the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. Emphasizing the spirit of Jan Bhagidaari (people’s participation), Shri Nadda highlighted the collective effort to eradicate tuberculosis by 2025, significantly ahead of the global 2030 target.
Uniting for a Common Goal
The campaign exemplifies a unified approach, harnessing the strengths of various stakeholders to eliminate TB. Shri Nadda praised the progress made within the first 30 days, with over 2 crore individuals screened and 1.48 lakh new TB cases identified. “Sustained partnerships, active participation, and nationwide commitment are crucial to achieving a TB-Free India,” he stated.

The meeting saw participation from prominent figures, including Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of Labour & Employment and Youth Affairs & Sports; Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, Minister of Heavy Industries and Steel; and Shri Jual Oram, Minister of Tribal Affairs. Also in attendance were senior officials from various ministries, reinforcing the collaborative, whole-of-government approach.
Achievements and Commitments
Shri Nadda noted significant strides in TB reduction, with a 17.7% decrease in cases, nearly double the global average. Treatment coverage has surged from 53% to 85%, and TB-related deaths have dropped by 21.4%.
Dr. Mandaviya lauded the integrated strategy, revealing that 156 ESIC hospitals have begun TB screenings. He assured the involvement of MyBharat volunteers in raising awareness and mobilizing the masses.
Shri Kumaraswamy shared a roadmap for the campaign, highlighting joint efforts between the Health and Steel Ministries. Shri Oram emphasized the campaign’s importance in addressing TB among tribal populations, underscoring the role of nutrition initiatives like the “Millet Mission.”

Shri Prataprao Jadhav and Smt. Anupriya Patel underscored the synergy between AYUSH and Health Ministries and the significance of field activities. Smt. Annpurna Devi highlighted the vital role of Anganwadi workers in providing nutrition and reducing TB stigma in rural areas.
