Nitishwar Kumar IAS Gets Extension as Additional Secretary & Financial Adviser, WCD Ministry

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved an extension for Nitishwar Kumar, IAS, as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Women and Child Development. His tenure, which was due to end on September 30, 2026, has been extended until August 31, 2027, the date of his superannuation.

A 1996-batch IAS officer of the Uttar Pradesh cadre, Kumar has nearly three decades of administrative experience spanning district administration, development planning, education, energy, water resources and public-sector management. He has served as District Magistrate in several districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Agra, Varanasi, Meerut and Barabanki.

Kumar has also held important positions at the state and central levels. His career includes assignments in the Ministry of Railways, Ministry of Water Resources and National Council for Teacher Education, besides senior administrative responsibilities during his inter-cadre deputation to Jammu and Kashmir.

He took charge as Additional Secretary and Financial Adviser in the Ministry of Women and Child Development in October 2022, where he has been handling financial and administrative responsibilities related to the ministry’s programmes and initiatives.

The extension provides continuity in the ministry’s senior financial and administrative leadership and allows Kumar to continue contributing his extensive experience in governance, public finance and programme implementation until his superannuation in August 2027.
