The Punjab government has posted Abhimanyu Malik, IAS, as Officer on Special Duty (Urban Affairs) to the Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar, following the completion of his Phase-II professional training. A 2024-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, Malik will now take up a district-level assignment focused on urban development and administrative coordination.
Malik’s new posting will provide him with hands-on experience in district administration while working closely with the Deputy Commissioner, Amritsar. The assignment comes as part of a wider exercise under which 10 IAS officers of the 2024 batch have been posted as OSD (Urban Affairs) across several districts in Punjab following their Phase-II training.
As OSD (Urban Affairs), Malik will assist the district administration in matters related to urban development, infrastructure, civic services and implementation of government schemes. He will also coordinate with urban local bodies, government departments and other agencies involved in development projects.
The posting is intended to strengthen district-level administrative support for urban affairs while giving young IAS officers practical exposure to field governance. Working under the guidance of the Deputy Commissioner will allow Malik to gain experience in inter-departmental coordination, monitoring development projects and addressing issues related to urban service delivery.
Malik’s assignment to Amritsar marks an important step in his administrative career, placing him in one of Punjab’s major urban centres and providing an opportunity to contribute to the implementation of urban development initiatives at the district level.
