The Punjab government has posted Shivansh Asthana, IAS, as Officer on Special Duty (Urban Affairs) to the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar, following the completion of his Phase-II professional training. A 2024-batch IAS officer of the Punjab cadre, Asthana will now take up a district-level assignment focused on urban affairs and development.
Asthana was previously serving as Assistant Commissioner (Under Training) in Sri Muktsar Sahib. His new posting will provide him with hands-on exposure to district administration while working closely with the Deputy Commissioner, Jalandhar.
As OSD (Urban Affairs), Asthana will support the district administration in matters concerning urban development, civic infrastructure, implementation of government schemes and coordination with urban local bodies. The role will also involve monitoring development initiatives and facilitating coordination between various government departments and agencies.
His posting is part of a broader Punjab government exercise under which 10 IAS officers of the 2024 batch have been assigned OSD (Urban Affairs) responsibilities across key districts, including Pathankot, Amritsar, Moga, Jalandhar, SAS Nagar, Ludhiana, Hoshiarpur and Patiala. The postings were ordered following the officers’ return from Phase-II training and took effect immediately.
The assignment marks an important stage in Asthana’s early administrative career, giving him direct experience in urban governance, development administration and inter-departmental coordination. His association with the Jalandhar district administration is expected to contribute to the monitoring and implementation of urban development initiatives in the district.
