OpenAI has appointed Prabhjeet Singh as its Managing Director for India, strengthening the company’s leadership in one of its key global markets. Singh will lead the company’s consumer and enterprise businesses, strategic partnerships, regulatory engagement and overall operations in the country.
Singh joins OpenAI after nearly 11 years at Uber, where he most recently served as President, Uber India and South Asia. During his tenure, he led the company’s mobility business across India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and played a key role in expanding its services and strategic partnerships.
Before joining Uber in 2015, Singh worked with McKinsey & Company, where he was an Associate Partner. He began his professional career with Lehman Brothers in 2005. An alumnus of IIT Kharagpur and IIM Ahmedabad, Singh brings extensive experience in scaling businesses, strategic leadership and navigating complex markets.
In his new role, Singh will work on expanding OpenAI’s engagement with consumers, enterprises, startups, developers, institutions and government bodies while strengthening partnerships across India’s growing AI ecosystem. He will report to Kiran Mani, Managing Director for Asia Pacific.
Singh’s appointment comes as OpenAI continues to deepen its presence in India, where demand for generative AI is growing rapidly across consumers and businesses. His experience in building and scaling technology-driven businesses is expected to support the company’s expansion and broader AI adoption in the country.
