Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025: Indian Diaspora Gathers in Odisha for Grand Celebration

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has unveiled details for the much-anticipated Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) 2025, set to be hosted in Bhubaneswar, Odisha. A significant number of Indian diaspora members from over 50 countries have already registered for this flagship event, scheduled from January 8 to 10, 2025.

The 18th PBD Convention, themed “Diaspora’s Contribution to a Viksit Bharat,” will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on January 9. The event will also feature a virtual address by the Chief Guest, Christine Carla Kangaloo, President of the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.

Adding to the excitement, PM Modi will remotely flag off the inaugural journey of the Pravasi Bharatiya Express. This special tourist train will embark on a three-week journey from Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi, touring sites of touristic and religious importance under the Pravasi Teertha Darshan Yojana.

Four distinctive exhibitions will be inaugurated, highlighting the contributions and cultural heritage of the Indian diaspora:

  1. Vishwaroop Ram: A blend of traditional and contemporary art forms depicting the Ramayana.
  2. Diaspora’s Contribution to Technology and Viksit Bharat: Showcasing the global impact of the Indian diaspora in technology.
  3. Spread and Evolution of Indian Diaspora: Featuring historical documents from Mandvi in Gujarat to Muscat, Oman.
  4. Heritage and Culture of Odisha: Displaying Odisha’s rich traditions through its art and crafts.

The event will culminate with the Valedictory Session on January 10, presided over by President Droupadi Murmu, who will confer the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards 2025.

Youth Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, scheduled for January 8, will feature Dr. Dev Pragad, CEO of Newsweek, as the Guest of Honour. The convention will also include five thematic plenary sessions focusing on diaspora youth leadership, sustainable development, women’s leadership, and cultural connections.

Being held in Odisha for the first time, the PBD Convention is set to be a historic gathering, celebrating the Indian diaspora’s achievements and fostering connections worldwide. The event will be streamed live on the PBD website and MEA’s YouTube channel.
