Sanjay Singhal, IPS, Appointed as Director General of Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB)

The Central Government has appointed Sanjay Singhal, IPS (1993 batch, Uttar Pradesh cadre), as the new Director General of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB). The decision was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

Currently serving as the Special Director General of the Border Security Force (BSF), Singhal will formally assume charge of the SSB on September 1, 2025. His tenure is set to continue until his superannuation on December 31, 2028, or until further orders, whichever comes earlier.

The SSB, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, plays a critical role in securing India’s borders with Nepal and Bhutan, and is also actively involved in internal security and disaster response duties.

With over three decades of experience in national and state-level policing, Sanjay Singhal is known for his leadership in border security operations and capacity-building within paramilitary forces. His appointment comes at a significant time as the SSB continues to expand its operational responsibilities and modernisation efforts.
