The Renewable Energy Society of India (RESI) extends its warm congratulations to Shri Radhey Shyam on his appointment as Programme Director (Implementation) in the National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) Secretariat, Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), Government of India.
With over 12 years of experience in the power sector, including more than seven years with MNRE, Shri Shyam has been instrumental in the implementation of several flagship renewable energy programs. His contributions span across Solar Parks, Ultra Mega Renewable Energy Power Projects (UMREPPs), solar projects for defence establishments, GatiShakti, floating solar initiatives, solar–wind hybrid projects, and the Viability Gap Funding (VGF) scheme, along with the monitoring and coordination of the National Solar Mission. These efforts have been central to India’s renewable energy success and have positioned the nation as a global leader in clean energy adoption.
In addition to his government service, Shri Shyam brings extensive industry experience across data centers, transmission systems, battery energy storage (BESS), and commercial & industrial renewable energy projects, including round-the-clock and hybrid solutions in both domestic and international markets. His expertise covers policy implementation, regulatory strategy, techno-economic due diligence, project management, execution, and large-scale project development, making him uniquely positioned to spearhead the mission’s effective rollout.
An alumnus of IIT Kanpur and Rajasthan Technical University (RTU), Kota, Shri Shyam has made remarkable academic and professional contributions. He is the author of eight books, more than 60 research papers, and holds 30+ national and international patents/designs spanning India, the UK, Africa, and Australia. His active engagement with the global clean energy ecosystem includes serving as Ambassador and Senior Member of IEEE, Ambassador of Island Innovation, Fellow of SESI & RESI, Member of IET, and Chartered Engineer with The Institution of Engineers (India) [IEI]. He also contributes as Industry Coordinator at the Office of Digital Learning, IIT Kanpur, helping to strengthen collaboration between academia, industry, and policy.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission, launched under the visionary leadership of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, represents a landmark step in India’s clean energy transition. With an outlay of ₹19,744 crore, the mission aims to achieve 5 million metric tonnes (MMT) of annual green hydrogen production capacity by 2030, create more than 600,000 jobs, and attract investments exceeding ₹8 lakh crore.
As Programme Director (Implementation), Shri Radhey Shyam will play a critical role in ensuring the success of this transformative mission, reinforcing India’s position as a global leader in sustainable and resilient clean energy solutions.
