Sunil Paliwal, IAS, has been appointed as the new Chairman of the Inland Waterways Authority of India (IWAI) under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways. He will take charge in the rank and pay of Secretary to the Government of India.
Before this elevation, Shri Paliwal was serving as the Chairperson of the Chennai Port Trust, where he oversaw major infrastructure upgrades and operational enhancements. His transition to IWAI comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to accelerate inland water transport, modernise waterways, and strengthen multimodal logistics connectivity across the country.
Known for his administrative acumen and extensive experience in the maritime and infrastructure sectors, Shri Paliwal is expected to play a key role in advancing national waterways development and driving strategic initiatives under the ministry.
His appointment marks a significant move aimed at bolstering India’s port-led growth and sustainable transport ecosystem.
